Responsible Recycling

E-Waste Recycling in Townsville

Townsville Tech Recyclers accepts a wide range of electronic waste for responsible disposal — keeping hazardous materials out of landfill and recovering valuable resources wherever possible.

What Is E-Waste?

E-waste — short for electronic waste — refers to any item with a plug, battery, or circuit board that has reached the end of its useful life. This includes everything from a decade-old desktop computer to a tangled box of charging cables in the back of a cupboard.

The problem with e-waste is what's inside. Electronics often contain lead, mercury, cadmium, and other hazardous substances. When these materials end up in general landfill, they can leach into soil and waterways over time. In North Queensland's climate, with its high rainfall and proximity to the Reef, that's a genuine concern worth taking seriously.

Australia generates millions of tonnes of e-waste each year, and the volume is growing as technology cycles shorten. Much of it is still being sent to landfill or stockpiled in sheds and offices. Responsible recycling diverts that material, recovers metals and plastics, and ensures hazardous components are handled appropriately.

What E-Waste Do We Accept?

We accept a broad range of electronic items in Townsville, including:

  • Desktop computers, towers, and all-in-one PCs
  • Laptops, notebooks, and Chromebooks
  • Monitors — LCD, LED, and older CRT screens
  • Smartphones and mobile phones
  • Tablets and e-readers
  • Printers, scanners, and fax machines
  • Cables, chargers, and power adapters
  • Audio and visual equipment with circuit boards
  • Televisions (flat-screen and CRT)
  • Small appliances containing circuit boards (routers, modems, set-top boxes)
  • Keyboards, mice, and other peripherals

A note on batteries: Batteries — particularly lithium-ion — require careful handling and may need to be separated from other e-waste depending on the volume and type. If your load includes a significant number of batteries or battery packs, mention it when you request a quote so we can advise accordingly.

E-Waste Pricing in Townsville

We keep pricing as straightforward as possible. If you have working IT equipment you're replacing as part of an upgrade, collection is free — there's no charge to you at all.

For broken equipment, cables, mixed loads, and general e-waste, we quote per job. Why? Because processing costs vary depending on the type of material, the weight, and the level of sorting required. A single broken laptop is a very different job to a trailer full of unsorted cables and old CRT monitors. Rather than publish a flat rate that won't apply fairly to every situation, we prefer to give you an honest quote based on what you actually have.

You don't need a precise inventory — a rough description is all we need to provide an estimate. No surprise fees, no hidden charges.

What Happens to Your E-Waste?

When your e-waste arrives with us, it's assessed first for reuse potential. Working equipment or functional components may be refurbished and given a second life, which is always the preferred outcome — it's better for the environment and reduces the demand for new manufacturing.

What can't be reused is broken down by material type: metals, plastics, glass, and circuit boards are all separated and directed to appropriate recycling streams. We work with responsible downstream recyclers to ensure materials are processed properly rather than simply being shipped offshore without accountability.

Our goal is straightforward: keep as much as possible out of landfill, handle hazardous materials responsibly, and give you a simple, local option for doing the right thing with your old electronics.
